Assistant Director
The Upshur County Public Library (UCPL) is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director. The UCPL is a full service library located in Buckhannon, WV, a progressive college community. Buckhannon has a low cost of living, friendly, small town atmosphere, and is conveniently located near a major interstate, approximately two hours south of Pittsburgh, PA and two hours north of Charleston, WV.
UCPL primarily serves a county with a population of about 25,000. In addition, the UCPL is a service center library, providing administrative services to 14 affiliate libraries in a six county region. UCPL has an annual operating budget of approximately $350,000 and a staff of 5 FTEs and 3 part-time employees.
A full job description is found here. The successful candidate must be an effective communicator, have strong organizational skills, and possess good leadership skills and a sound work ethic. Experience with managing the daily tasks inherent in a public library, social media and outreach services would be essential. Proficiency with technology, grant writing, and prior supervisory skills would be beneficial. A major component of this position will be seeking new ways to engage and promote lifelong reading experiences to our patrons of all ages.
The minimum requirement for the position is an MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Prior professional library service, including direct supervision of staff would be beneficial. The salary will be $37,500, with a competitive benefits package.
